but the grass will not grow and in winter it is really dark and cold ,any suggestions other than paving or pebbles for what would be nice to plant beneath the tree.
I have a very dark shady area under an evergreen Bauhinia orchid tree ,during summer it is very cool?
I have seen neighbors make a beautiful circle of rocks around the tree. They put a weed barrier, and some nice red mulch. You could try some flowers that grow in shade there too. One neighbor has potted plants she rests in the mulch all around her tree. It%26#039;s very pretty. But it does matter how much light is getting under there.
Even if you use mulch with some nice edging around the tree and place a bench there----you could enjoy the shade in the summer.
Just a few ideas. I know paving and pebbles does seem kind of harsh.
Reply:ferns and a plant called lenten rose like shade alot and the lenten rose blooms from february untill may plant them together with the ferns in front of rose.....they look good together
Reply:You might be able to grow periwinkle there. It can tolerate shade fairly well. If that doesn%26#039;t work, how about containers of plants that you can move into the sun every few days?
